What is Timber Framing? Timber Framing’s roots originate from Europe and Asia going back centuries in the construction of cathedrals and temples. It is the use of large Timbers joined together with Mortise and Tenon Joinery with Wooden Pegs, and other complex joinery.
Ottawa Valley Timber Works continues this style of carpentry with modern structures aligned with today’s needs, since 2010.
Why do we love Timber Framing?
We enjoy working with raw wood while using hand tools consisting of large chisels and hand planes, all razor sharp. When using a hand plane it is gratifying having shavings peel away, while exerting oneself with manual labor.
It continues with the satisfaction of implementing traditional joinery to join large Timbers to form a structure that will last generations, for it is worth preserving due to its instinctive beauty. It truly is a method of carpentry where the functionality becomes fashionable.

Testimonials
“Ottawa Valley Timber Works, Stephen and his team did an AMAZING job recreating our deck after the 2022 Derecho. They were SO easy to work with and did a BEAUTIFUL job. I can't recommend and thank them enough!”
— Megan F.
“The screen house is beautifully contructed with a timber frame with traditional joinery. Stephen built the frame in his workshop and the rest was constructed onsite. The friendly team did a fantastic job and built the screen house in about a week. I would highly recommend Ottawa Valley Timber Works.”
— Laura B.
“Steve built us a gorgeous one of a kind outdoor room in our backyard. The large beams in black ( Shou Sugi Ban) contrast beautifully with the light white pine, and the soaring ceiling inside allows us to hang fans or heaters depending on the season . Addition of electricity to the roughed-in wiring done by OVT, and the addition of plexi-windows allows ys three seasons of use!”
